Face The Music Friday #15

This is way late on Friday for my post, but snow storm Hercules had other ideas for my morning. Stupid snow. Anyway, not a ton of updates this week.

Julie and Dan came down NYE to hang out unexpectedly (well, maybe just for me and Dan). We all played 3D Mario on Dan’s new Wii U that he brought for us to check out and then when we were played out we read all of the cards from Tara’s jar of memories she’d been keeping throughout the year. We all took turns reading some of the cards and it was fun looking back at our 2013.

We slept in pretty late on New Year’s Day and, after some breakfast, I asked Dan to come to the gym with me to show me some stuff on my routine that I was either unfamiliar with or not sure we had the right things to use at my tiny Planet Fitness (which we didn’t on some of them). I am pretty confident to start this plan on Monday. Tomorrow will also be my first visit to the obstacle gym so I’m excited (and terrified) to go there.

One highlight of the week was when Dan was showing me my new routine and he was showing me some fancy barbell curl that I forget the name of. The dude on the bench next to us sees me curling the 40 lb barbell that Dan gave me (the 20 and 30 lb were both taken at the time) and literally said “that’s impressive”. Whether or not it is, I felt pretty badass. I’ve been flying pretty high off of that since Wednesday.

Fitness this week:

Saturday – Out and about all day

Sunday – Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

Monday – 45 min walk and yoga

Tuesday – 45 min walk and 10 min Arc Trainer

Wednesday – 30-45 min learning new weight routine and 30 min yoga

Thursday/Friday – shoveling out

Since it’s only appropriate with the 8-10 inches of the white stuff outside, here is the Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow (Hey Oh). Everyone enjoy their weekend!

Face The Music Friday #14

You may notice something missing at the beginning of this Face The Music Friday. As I mentioned in my last post, the scale is making me anxious and I don’t want that becoming an issue. I’ve barely gone on it this week and have decided that I may not update on that for quite some time, maybe a couple of months when I feel like I’ve gotten my control back. You guys will just have to be kept in suspense. Maybe I’ll have a big reveal, with celebrities, giveaways and cute baby animals.

Or maybe not. Please! You think I have that kind of budget?!?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Fitness this week:

Saturday – Walked a lot doing some shopping at the outlets and malls

Sunday – Shoveled heavy ass snow for 45 minutes. Yuck.

Monday – Chest, Triceps, Core (all sets of 4, 8 reps per set):

Bench Press – 90 lb, Fly – 85 lb, Cable uppercut – 10 lb each side, Push-ups to failure – 7, 6, 5, 5 (none with knees)
Tricep Dips – (Assisted w/ 85 lb), Rope pull-down – 35 lb, Kickbacks – 12.5 lb
Ab Crunch – 85 lb, Torso rotation w/ cable – 27.5 lb, Knee Raise – 10 x 4, Planks – 45 sec x 4

Tuesday – Walked – 45 minutes

Wednesday – Back, Biceps (all sets of 4, 8 reps per set):
Row – 35 lb, Back Extension – 110 lb, Pull-up (Assisted w/ 120 lb)
Regular Bicep curl – 17.5 lb, Hammer Curl – 17.5 lb, Reverse Curl – 17.5 lb

Thursday – Walked – 30 minutes

Friday – rest

Someone posted this Buzzfeed list on Facebook this morning and I thought it was hysterical. Not all of these are my personal peeves, and some of my own are missing, but I really love #25. A lot of days I’m the only girl over in the weights portion of the gym (at least at 5am when I go).

Since this is the last Friday before Christmas (holy crap on a cracker!), I’ve made my musical selection holiday appropriate. I have too many favorites to pick just one Christmas song, but if someone held a gun to my head and made me do it, this would probably be my choice.

Christmas Eve/Sarajevo – Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Bring in da noise, bring in da funk

30 min – Yoga Studio app

45 min – Weight training – arms

Just started week 5 of my 10K training. After having kind of a crappy, sore week last week, I’m hoping that this week will bring in da noise, bring in da funk. Sometimes I need those kind of “down” weeks to boost myself back up to keep going. I skipped a couple of strength workouts, but never missed my three runs for the week.

If you couldn’t tell by my titles, I’m slightly music obsessed. Music pumps me up and helps me get through those crappy workouts, when all I want to do is quit from the minute I lace up my sneakers. I listen to a hyped up playlist on my runs and will throw on the Classic Alternative station on cable when I’m in the basement with the weights. I sing along and focus on the lyrics instead of how tired/sore/lazy I’m feeling.

I feel pretty good after yoga and weights tonight and am looking forward to my run tomorrow night. I love the solitude and letting the misery of work roll off my shoulders with every step!
