About Me
Hi, I’m Courtney.
In January 2012 I had reached a lifetime high weight and had enough. I hardly have any pictures of myself from around this time because I was so self conscious. I made the decision to lose weight and become fit. We purchased an elliptical, which broke in June, of that year and led me to try C25K as an alternative. One week before my first 5K a severe hip strain sidelined me for months.
By January 2013 I felt well enough to try something. I thought yoga would have a low impact and that the stretching would be beneficial to my hip. I also began walking daily at work during lunch. I grew strong enough to walk in my first 5K and felt ready to try the C25K program once again. This time I was able to complete it and have run in many races since.
My wife, Tara, and I have been married since 2009 and together since 2004. I was born and raised in Massachusetts, but moved to Rhode Island 11 years ago. I swore I would die a Masshole, but true love will change things. We also have two adorable fur babies, Flynn and Delilah.
I’m not just a runner. I’m also obsessed with music (I will spend hours creating the “perfect” running playlist). I’m a Whovian. I love spreadsheets (using them frequently to map out workouts), wear socks at all times and crave routine. I’ve recently rediscovered my love of the outdoors through kayaking and hiking. I’m a huge Boston sports fan, but most especially the Patriots. I’m a self proclaimed geek (as if the Whovian and spreadsheet references didn’t clue you in). I love TV, it helps me relax. I like that when I turn it on it quiets my mind so all I focus on is the show. My favorite color is blue. I’m an incredibly picky eater (which makes dieting so difficult). I’m very competitive, which motivates me during races to keep going.
After reading so many inspiring blogs, I decided to give journaling a shot. And maybe, someday, my journey might encourage someone else.
Super cute cats! I totally relate to falling in love with running… against all expectations 🙂 My sister just signed up for the tough mudder and it sounds INSANE so I can see why your wife would be skeptical!
Thanks – they know it too!
I will be super impressed if you do a Tough Mudder, and will want to read all about it! My friend keeps trying to get me to run one with her, but I’m chicken. Maybe some day!
I’m sure your story has already inspired many people to put their health first!
Believe me, if I ever get there I’ll scream it from atop a mountain! LOL
You should totally try it, especially if you have a friend to do it with. I wouldn’t have anyone to do it with because I don’t have any friends that are runners…so it’s kinda hard to convince them!
Thanks for your reply 🙂
If you are a whovian and a runner and love cats, you are like my favorite person ever! 😀 Congratulations on your journey thus far!
YES!! And thank you! 🙂
I bet your journey encourages many you don’t even know about… and others you do know about (ME!). I loved reading this!
Aww, thanks! 🙂
Your cat pictures are adorable!!! 😀
Thanks! They’re total hams.
You need a contact sheet for your blog.
I wanted to send you a private message (but couldn’t find your email) thanking you for your support and readership for my blog. You’ve been one of my biggest supporters and I am so appreciative for that!!!
Happy New Year Courtney. I hope you and your wife have a spectacular 2014! =)
Aww, thanks Haley! You’re so very welcome! I enjoy reading it, and thanks for stopping by mine as well.
I’ll have to get on that contact thing – wasn’t even thinking about it! I never thought anyone would want to contact me! HAHA
I just came across your blog and wanted to say hi! I love your story and your cats are adorable! Umm if you do a Tough Mudder that is impressive, I’m way too much of a wimp haha!
What an amazing journey! I think it’s fantastic that you have so many great goals and that you don’t lose sight of them when things (like a hip injury) get in the way. You’re a real inspiration! Thank you for sharing your story and journey with us.
Thank you for stopping by to say hi 🙂
You will be in a Tough Mudder in 48 hours. Nervous??? :p
Of course I am!!
Nice to meet you Courtney!
Adorable fur babies you have there. I love the name Flynn. I crave routine also. It kind of becomes an obsession and I just want to do a list for everything! Lol well I’m new to the blogger world. Would love for you to check out my blog! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Just checked it out! Welcome to blogging!
Good Luck on your Journey! Is your blog title a reference to Dr. Who’s episode “Don’t Blink”?
Thank you! Yes it is!
That is easily the best Dr. Who episode. So creative, well written and eerie. Gives me goosebumps each time I watch it.
