31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 20/Face The Music Friday #67

#20 – Difficult time in your life

I can think of a few off the top of my head. First and foremost would be the deaths of my great-grandparents. We spent the majority of every summer with them at their beach house and they were some of my favorite people on the planet. I think about them often and am sad that Tara didn’t get to meet Gigi, and only met Bumpa once, in the hospital before he passed. She actually met most of that side of my family at his funeral.

There are instances I won’t talk about and then there is this latest rough patch. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and it’s very welcomed. It’s been a lot of years since a patch like this and I’m thankful for that. I’m most thankful for the people who have come through to the other side of that tunnel with me, who never leave my side.

______________________________________________________________________

Training this week was not great. I’ve been pet/house sitting for friends and it’s been tough balancing work and going back and forth between two houses while getting ready for Carry the Fallen tomorrow. I focused on the runs at least so if I skipped something it wasn’t that, but I skipped the whole end of the week. I figure I’ll make up for it by walking a marathon on Saturday!

So here it is:

Saturday – Rainy 3 mile ruck and 30 min yoga

Sunday – 9 miles

Monday – Rest

Tuesday – 3 miles

Wed, Thurs, Fri – errands and prep

Enjoy this week’s song and I’ll have an update soon on how my second Carry The Fallen went!

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 18

#18 – Meaning behind blog name

My blog name is a plethora of things. I wanted a blog that I could talk about anything. I didn’t want to specifically be in any one niche, but wanted to have a sort of guideline. I mostly talk about training, but like to geek out every now and again. Don’t Blink is a reference to Doctor Who regarding the Weeping Angels.

The Doctor likes to say “RUN!” a lot when they’re getting away from bad guys, plus I’m a runner so the Just Run portion kind of explains itself.

I don’t just obsess over Doctor Who, but one might think so based on the name!

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 17

First of all, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

#17 – Most proud moment

I would say probably kissing the Boston Marathon finish line last November when I did my first Carry The Fallen ruck march. It’s incredibly difficult walking 26.2 miles over the course of 13+ hours and it was  really emotional and powerful moment when we finally finished, as a team.

What is your proudest moment?

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 16

#16 – What’s at the top of your bucket list

Well, I think in my immediate future, it would have to be running my first full marathon. I hope to get in to the Marine Corps Marathon and started training for it in December. Yes, I know, that’s a long time to train, but if you’re as injury prone as I am, you take your time.

Long term, I would love to be able to travel more. I just don’t get enough vacation time or make enough money to go anywhere fun outside the U.S. I’ve been to Canada twice, does that count? Anyway, top of my list would be Ireland. I’ve always wanted to go there. Australia is a close second.

I suppose that will always remain on the top of my bucket list unless I hit the lottery (see day 14)!

Tell me what is at the top of your bucket list!

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 15

#15 – Timeline of a day

So this topic is about as exciting to me as the “what’s in your fridge?” day. I doubt anyone cares, but I picked Friday for my example, so we’ll roll with it. Times aren’t too specific, just vaguely around what I remember.

5:30 – alarm goes off

5:40 – I make my way to the kitchen to make breakfast – OJ/spinach smoothie and an apple with peanut butter.

6:00 – After drinking said smoothie, I wash all the dishes and sit with my apple to check my email and Facebook.

6:30ish – Shower and start getting ready for work. Pack lunch/snacks for the day and homework for my therapy appointment.

7:30 – Leave the house for said appointment which is at 8:00

8:45 – Leave appointment and head to work

9:10 – Arrive very early for work and sit in my car for a few to prepare myself and catch up on Facebook messenger with a few people

9:20 – Make myself walk in the door only to discover we still have 4 people out, but at least it’s Friday and not 5 people like the previous two days.

9:45 – My work shift officially begins

11:15 – My AM break – enjoy an exciting banana

1:00 – Lunch break – homemade chicken parmesan but with coconut flour and coconut oil, and only the slightest bit of provolone (we bought the wrong cheese) and peas on the side. Don’t be jealous!

2:00 – Lunch over, back to the grind. I basically didn’t stop to breathe for hours after this.

4:15 – PM break – a lovely snack of fresh pineapple

6:00 – I’m free! I head to my friend’s house to get the rundown on what I need to do while pet sitting for them for the next week.

6:45ish – Head home to wait for Tara to get home to finish the grocery shopping she had started. Did some dishes while I waited and put away the clean ones in the dishwasher.

7:00 – Go to Walmart to finish off our grocery list. Buy a LOT of ingredients to make the cookies for Carry The Fallen next weekend.

8:30 – Home, put away the groceries and re-heat leftover chicken parm for dinner. Sit and relax while catching up on Facebook and watching The Walking Dead.

10:00 – Lights out!

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 14

#14 – If I won the lottery…

Firstly, I’m gonna be a little bit selfish and build our dream home. Tara and I don’t want anything gigantic and more than we can take care of, but we’ve always wanted to sort of have our “own” home. I’d love for us to have the abililty to make every little nook and cranny just the way we want it and to live where we want, which would probably be on the coast so I could fall asleep listening to the waves like when I was younger. The picture below was our beach that we grew up on in Duxbury, MA.

I would help out our family. I would want them to be comfortable and not have to worry about anything.

I’d help out my favorite charities.

I’d keep some aside for Tara and I to live out the rest of our lives comfortably. I’d love for us to travel – a lot.

These are just off the top of my head ideas, but generally the ones I always think about.
