Yup, I’m still here. Β π
I’m popping in today to make a pretty big announcement. I need some accountability and what better way than to announce it to the interwebs?
Through a great deal of thought and an even greater amount of peer pressure, I have decided I am going to throw my hat in the ring and sign up for the Marine Corps Marathon next October. Yes, you read that correctly – marathon.
I must be completely insane.
Now is your time, runner friends – PLEASE give me all of your best tips, tricks, advice, etc. The first step will be actually getting in since it’s a lottery system (that I just found out yesterday), but I am starting training for it next week. Lay it on me!
Awesome!!! I have no tips or tricks or advice of any kind because I’ve never run a marathon, but I’ll definitely cheer you on as you train! π (And I’ll cross my fingers that you get in through the lottery!)
Thanks! I’ll take all the cheering I can get. π
Oh wow! That’s awesome Courtney! No advice but definitely rooting for you!
Thanks Des π
Good luck!
One tip of the top of my head: Define your marathon pace early in training and stick with it no matter what your training gives.
Thank you
Freaking awesome!! I hope you get in!!
Thank you!!
I love this!!!! And im so happy it’s finally public! I think the Marine Corps Marathon is the great marathon for your first one especially because you just did that amazing walk to end veteran suicide, I know how much that meant to you… It seems fitting to run MCM.:)
Thanks!! You KNOW I’ll be hitting you up for help at some point. LOL
Holy crap, that’s awesome! I have heard nothing but good things about MCM, you’re gonna have such an amazing experience!
Thanks Fallon!
This is my favorite race ever. It is amazing and inspiring and…. Wow. I’ll be hoping for you. I am tossing my name in for NYC.
I’m so excited. And congrats!! NYC will be awesome, good luck!
Amazing! Good luck π
Thank you!
How exciting! I have no marathon tips for you as I haven’t run one yet. Excited to read about your journey though!
Thanks!
That is so exciting! I would pick a plan like Hal Higdon and stick with it. My other tip from someone who get’s a lot of injuries is to do prehab. If your health insurance covers it I would go see and physiotherapist before you start to work on your weaknesses before they cause any injuries. Good luck with the lottery! Fingers crossed for you!
Great tip, thanks! π
The MCM was one of my favorite marathons, and if you get in and run it, you will LOVE it! The marines do an amazing job putting the event on, and the fans are crazy cheering the runners on! Hope you get in!
I’m so excited about it. I hope I can get in!
Woo hoo! How exciting. I have never run a marathon (and I’m not sure I ever will). My only advice is to stick to your training plan. Which I have no doubt you will! And trust in that training. I can’t wait to follow your journey!!
I will be all over that training plan! lol
After my half, I said I’d probably never do another half. We see where that got me. π
Good on you!! π hope your training goes well! π
Woohoo! Good luck!
A marathon? Holy crap, go you!
That’s awesome!! Good luck!!
Yesss! So awesome! You’ll do great! My advice is pick a plan and stick to it. Hal Higdon, Galloway, etc. Make sure to have proper shoes. Cross train. Get an accountability partner or group. Enjoy the journey!
