Fitness this week: shoveling snow. LOTS of snow.

I didn’t go to the gym. I didn’t do any workouts at home. I did nothing other than shovel for about 2.5 hours total on 2 different days this week. My body and mind are tired. I didn’t get to sit down and have dinner before 8pm on any single night this week due to either the snow or random errands. Am I sorry? Nope. I needed the rest (as little extra as I got).

Many of you have seen my Diet S.O.S. post. I’ve decided I’m going to go for it. I’ve used some tips from Yankee Girl and am going to try doing a TDEE method instead. Several calculators have me anywhere from 2450-2550 calories for my TDEE so I’m going to aim for somewhere around 2000-2200. We’ll see how that goes. I’m getting a new food scale delivered tomorrow. We’re going to get more small containers so we can portion things out over the weekend for the week, so we don’t need to think about it during the work week.

In other news, I skipped my obstacle class last night because my back was killing me from – you guessed it – the shoveling. I didn’t want to overdo it. And next week I won’t be going because we’re getting our taxes done. I hope I don’t lose any progress I’ve made on the obstacles, but I can’t stress over it too much. I’m also bummed because my chiro cancelled my appt this week due to…yep…the snow. Now I need to wait until next week to go.

On a good news front, I got a voicemail last night that said my jury duty on Monday was postponed until Tuesday due to…more snow. I’m hoping that maybe we’ll get a snow day from work on Monday (highly unlikely) and then I’ll have jury duty on Tuesday. It was supposed to be jury duty on Mon and Tues but now I’m not sure if it will be Tues/Wed. I’ve never had it before so I don’t know how it works. At least I won’t be at work!

For my song this week, this is one of my faves songs from one of my most recent favorite movies, Pitch Perfect. I watch it probably once a month! I also have a slight celeb crush on Anna Kendrick.

Anna Kendrick – Cups

And how can I resist putting in a scene from the movie??? I can’t, so here you go!

I have counted my hours of snow shoveling and ice chipping as workouts too! My arms hurt, my hands hurt, and I want to go to the beach very badly right now. Just think of the different muscles we worked! 🙂 Happy Friday!

  2. Seriously shoveling is no joke! I remember how sore I used to be… I would however console myself by thinking of the calories i burned!

So somehow I wasn’t following you! So I missed awesome posts! I too am going through the lose and gain the same 4-6 pounds. I’m not ready to measure and portion out food though. I just need to not eat potato chips….geez, what distance runner consumes chips? Well. I. Do. or maybe I don’t anymore.
Snow handling is a workout. I find in weather like that all i want to do is get a snuggie and a warm beverage. Kudos to you for moving the snow!!!
I do not think you will lose obstacle class progress…I imagine when you come back your will actually be a bit stronger because you have had REST

Not eat chips? I would die. I’m a salty over sweet girl most of the time. I may not eat them often, but I could never give them up. Don’t be silly!

  4. Aw man, I hope your back feels better quickly! Are you stretching it with cat/cows and then lying on your back and hugging your knees to your chest after you come in from shoveling? I hope to get my “Courtney inspired” post up on Monday or Tuesday!

    Have a great weekend!

Ooh, I don’t envy you all if that shovelling! 😮

Did you see there’s going to be a sequel to Pitch Perfect? So pumped!

    • Courtney says:

SO excited…you don’t even know!!! So far I’ve only heard Anna and Rebel have signed on though – I wonder if any of the other original cast will join in.

I actually loved Perfect Pitch – I’ve only seen it once though! I am all about music, but my husband can’t stand music in movies – he tells me that’s why I have a Mom, daughter and sister! And seriously, so done with this winter!!

  8. Yankee Girl says:

Oh man, I am so glad I haven’t had to deal with the snow this winter, I do not envy you one bit! Great workout though. 🙂

Good luck with the food project! I am psyched to see what happens for you. 🙂

  9. Yankee Girl says:

(PS, no guilt, it’s for science!)

  10. Pitch Perfect is fun, I actually keep it on my phone to watch when I get insomnia. And I just can’t process the snow thing! That has to be a great workout though.

  11. Love that movie! And losing weight bites. It is a tedious job that’s one step forward and two steps back. Just think of how strong your arms, and shoulders will be after all that shoveling!

    • Courtney says:

Haha yeah! Especially since the snow on Wednesday froze under the pouring rain so by the time I got home from work it was like lifting bricks in every scoop! Oh hey…just building some muscles here…move along.

  12. I am a big fan of better safe than sorry after too many injuries. Good job listening to your body.

I hear you on the snow!! We have had plenty of it as well! Although thankfully I don’t actually have to shovel any of it, our Condo Assoc takes care of that! I love the Cups song and Anna Kendrick’s version. But being an Irish Girl, this version is also a favorite… http://youtu.be/nFtfk0bZVRM
    Hope you enjoy it!
